About the position

As a Documentation Engineer / Technical Writer at Meta, you will play a crucial role in enhancing developer productivity by creating and maintaining high-quality documentation for various internal technologies, tools, and platforms. Your work will ensure that technical content is not only accurate but also easily discoverable and understandable by developers. You will collaborate closely with engineering, product, and support teams to gather necessary information and translate complex technical concepts into clear, concise, and structured documentation. This role involves hands-on research, editing contributed content, and reorganizing existing documentation to improve clarity and usability. Your responsibilities will include designing, writing, and editing technical and process documentation, as well as creating and maintaining code sample fragments and sample applications as needed. You will be expected to independently define and drive technical documentation projects, ensuring that all content meets the high standards set by Meta. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in project management and a proven track record of delivering documentation that supports the release and adoption of software products. This position is integral to the Developer Infrastructure (DevInfra) team, which is dedicated to building innovative and reliable developer tools and automation infrastructure that enhance the coding lifecycle at Meta.

Responsibilities

  • Create and maintain documentation for internal technologies, tools, and platforms used within Meta.
  • Work closely with engineering, product, and support teams to ensure the quality, discoverability, and accuracy of the content that you create and develop.
  • Design, write, and edit technical and process documentation.
  • Create and maintain code sample fragments and sample applications, as needed.

Requirements

  • BA/BS degree in computer science, technical writing, physics, mathematics, or chemistry or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years experience in writing, technical documentation, and/or developer outreach for a developer audience or equivalent experience.
  • 2+ years experience with a programming language such as Python, C++, JavaScript, Java, PHP, etc.
  • Experience independently defining and driving technical documentation projects.
  • Experience working with markdown content formatting.
  • Experience writing, proofreading and editing.
  • Experience interpreting example code so that it can be explained to users.

  • Experience producing and organizing content with a logical flow.
  • Experience collaborating effectively across multiple teams and competing deadlines.
  • Experience using source control to manage and publish content.
  • Experience supporting multiple programming languages and development platforms.
