About The Position

The License Specialist II position at the Texas Department of Public Safety involves performing licensing and permitting work in a Regional Operations Field office. Requirements

  • Graduation from a standard senior high school or the equivalent.
  • Minimum of one year of general office, volunteer, or customer service experience.
  • Valid driver license required.
  • Certification as a Commercial Knowledge Examiner (CCKE) required within the first six months of employment.
  • Working knowledge of TXDPS, State and Federal regulations, legislation, guidelines, policies, and procedures.
  • Ability to exercise poise, tact, and diplomacy in professional relationships.
  • Organizational skills to prioritize in a multi-demand environment.
  • Presentation and communication skills to deliver clear and concise information.
  • Analytical reasoning and attention to detail to examine data and identify trends.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and standard office equipment.

  • Cash handling experience is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Meet and deal with the general public in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Answer general questions pertaining to applications for various types of driver licenses and identification cards.
  • Receive and review original and permit applications, duplicates, modifications, and renewals.
  • Determine the legal needs and requirements of driver license and identification card applicants.
  • Screen application forms to ensure applicant qualification.
  • Approve applications for licenses and permits based on state regulations and agency policies.
  • Provide interpretation of licensing and permitting requirements and applicable agency and statutory requirements.
  • Perform basic checks of physical driving capabilities of applicants.
  • Inspect motor vehicles for safety prior to road tests.
  • Issue licenses and permits, collect appropriate fees, and prepare receipts.
  • Advise applicants of suspensions, cancellations, and revocations.
  • Administer written, oral, or other tests to license permit applicants.
  • Schedule applicants for driving tests and operate automated testing machines.
  • Provide administrative and technical assistance related to license and permit requirements to the general public and agency staff.
