About the position

The DSP-1 Behavior Interventionist at TERI Campus of Life is responsible for supporting individuals with intellectual disabilities in a social recreation program. This role focuses on promoting social and emotional development, managing challenging behaviors, and implementing tailored behavior interventions. The position emphasizes building strong relationships and maintaining open communication with staff and clients, ensuring a supportive environment for personal growth and community integration.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in small group activities aimed at promoting socialization and skill building.
  • Accompany individuals on community outings fostering independence and community integration.
  • Manage and address challenging behaviors in a safe and professional manner adhering to established protocols and procedures.
  • Assist students with daily personal tasks as needed.
  • Coordinate with the Program Director for communication of staff needs and concerns.
  • Complete necessary documentation, incident and injury reports, and all other required documentation.
  • Assist students in developing life skills such as communication, problem-solving, and decision-making.
  • Collaborate with staff members to develop and implement intervention strategies with the Program Director.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED).
  • One year of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience working with children, teens, and adults with developmental and learning disabilities.
