The Field Service Engineer plays a crucial role in this ecosystem, ensuring that our customers experience minimal downtime through effective repair and maintenance of our molecular diagnostic and cytology equipment. This position is based in Albany, NY, and involves servicing equipment across the region, providing a first-class customer experience that is essential to our business success. In this role, you will be responsible for conducting advanced troubleshooting to repair, test, and qualify instruments located at various customer sites. You will manage both scheduled preventive maintenance and unscheduled visits, ensuring that all equipment is functioning optimally. Your ability to determine the correct inventory levels of repair parts and document all customer interactions in our CRM system will be vital. You will also collaborate with Product Application Engineers to address quality issues and keep management informed of any developments. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in engineering support for medical devices, with a focus on troubleshooting complex issues. Excellent communication skills are essential, as you will be setting clear expectations with customers and building strong relationships. Responsibilities

  • Conducts advanced troubleshooting to repair, test and qualify instruments located at assigned territory sites.
  • Schedules and manages preventive maintenance and unscheduled visits to instrument sites.
  • Determines correct inventory levels of repair parts with supply lines.
  • Documents repair/resolution of customer calls in CRM system and escalates issues to management as needed.
  • Works with Product Application Engineers to resolve quality issues and advise of issues and developments.
  • Keeps management advised of issues and developments.
  • Ensures instrumentation is in compliance with regulatory requirements and quality control standards.

Requirements

  • Must be able to meet all customer credentialing requirements.
  • Working knowledge of chemistry principles and chemical handling techniques.
  • Understanding of proper use and operation of electronic testing equipment.
  • Knowledge of inventory and procurement systems.
  • Ability to interface with internal and/or external customers.
  • Solid computer skills.
  • Time management skills.
  • Strong robotics, fluidics and pneumatics experience preferred.
  • Ability to pass a comprehensive background check.
  • Possess a valid Driver's License and maintain a clean driving record.
  • BS/BA degree or equivalent experience preferred; AA/AS degree and/or practical Military experience also considered.
  • 2+ years related field experience with direct customer interaction, preferably in a laboratory setting.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a laboratory setting is preferred.
  • Familiarity with regulatory compliance in medical device environments.
