About the position

WSP has a career opportunity for a Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Analyst to join our team in our Denver, CO office. The ideal candidates will have a Bachelor of Science degree in GIS, Geography, Environmental Science, Computer Science, or equivalent, with around 0 to 1+ years of experience, or any equivalent education and experience. We are looking for someone who is genuinely excited and enthusiastic about learning and pushing technical limits, finding innovative solutions for our engineering and technology-related projects and clients. In this role, you will create high-quality maps, conduct GIS analysis, and prepare data for reports to support a variety of Engineering and Homeland Security and Emergency Management projects. This includes FEMA floodplain mapping, dam breach analysis, levee certifications, municipal Stormwater management, remote sensing, hazard mitigation plans, and others using the ESRI suite of products. You will perform both geographic and non-geographic data manipulation, management, and analysis, cartography, and develop or use automated GIS processes across various software environments. You will be expected to manage multiple projects simultaneously while ensuring they remain on time and within budget, working in a production-oriented environment as part of a team. Additionally, you will revise existing GIS layers and create new layers following established standards and procedures, correct geospatial locations of features based on aerial photography or topography, and maintain metadata and best practices to support systems and data.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in GIS, Geography, Environmental Science, Computer Science, or related field.
  • 0-1 years of experience in GIS or equivalent education and experience.
  • Proficiency in ESRI's ArcGIS Pro and Microsoft Office software.
  • Familiarity with database development and management.
  • Good organizational, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Attention to detail and excellent analytical/problem-solving skills.
  • Presentation skills to clearly communicate GIS technologies.

Nice-to-haves

  • Basic familiarity with programming languages such as Python, Visual Basic, or C+.
  • Experience in developing applications for data collection using laptops, smartphones, and tablets.
  • Working knowledge of FEMA HAZUS program.
  • Experience in processing LiDAR.
