About the position

The Echo Technician at Franciscan Health is responsible for performing echocardiograms, ensuring patient safety, and maintaining equipment. This role is crucial in providing high-quality diagnostic studies and supporting the department's performance improvement initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Decontaminate and clean equipment, including transducers and TEE probes, following infection control policies.
  • Respond to emergency callbacks within the designated timeframe according to departmental policy.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot equipment, alerting clinical engineering and management of any issues.
  • Participate in the Continuous Performance Improvement program, evaluating personal and peer work.
  • Perform transthoracic echocardiograms (TTE), transesophageal echocardiograms (TEE), and stress echocardiograms (SE) following departmental protocols.
  • Prepare images and data in a preliminary report for physician review in the designated reporting system.
  • Ensure patient safety by inspecting TEE probes and confirming proper positioning for tests.
  • Record all required measurements in 2D and M-mode, as well as advanced measurements per policy.
  • Quickly obtain all required views during stress echocardiograms, including post-exercise views.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED required.
  • Graduate of a CAAHEP accredited echocardiography program with 800 clinical hours preferred.
  • 1 year of experience working as an echo sonographer preferred.
  • Diagnostic Medical Sonography (DMEDSON) certification required.
  • Registry for Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographers (RDCS) certification required.
  • Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) certification required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Associate's Degree preferred.
  • Experience working as an echo sonographer preferred.
