About The Position

When you join the growing BILH team, you're not just taking a job, you're making a difference in people's lives. Under supervision of a Registered Nurse, the ED Tech performs delegated tasks and assists the multidisciplinary health care team to provide care to patients in the emergency department.

Requirements

  • Requires high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Technical training as Nursing Assistant or EMT is preferred.
  • AHA Basic Life Support required.
  • Certified Nursing Assistant or EMT-Basic certification or higher preferred.
  • Basic ability to read, write and perform basic four-function math.
  • Ability to obtain knowledge of medical terminology, basic personal computer skills, and interpersonal skills.
  • One to three years of related experience preferred.

Nice To Haves

  • Technical training as Nursing Assistant or EMT is preferred.
  • Certified Nursing Assistant or EMT-Basic certification or higher preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Cares for patients as delegated by the registered nurse and completes all aspects of activities of daily living for assigned patients.
  • Reports all unusual observations or reactions of the patient to the assigned nurse or charge nurse.
  • Collects specimens for analysis; measures and records intake/output including foley catheter.
  • Provides patients with personal care and assistance with activities of daily living.
  • Performs clinical procedures independently or under direct supervision of a nurse.
  • Assists the patient with ordering room service, set up of meal tray, and feeds the patient as required.
  • Supports a culture of safety and carries out safety interventions for all patients.
  • Adheres to all applicable infection control policies and procedures. Clean patient equipment following the designated process.
  • Assists with orientation of new emergency department technician colleagues.
  • Assists in transporting patients to and from other departments, as delegated by nursing staff, utilizing principles of prevention & safety.
  • Performs point of care testing, including quality control, as well as patient testing for glucose monitoring, fecal occult blood testing Urine HCG.
  • Performs peripheral venipuncture with provider order under delegation of nursing staff.
  • Performs and prioritizes unit-based activities as assigned, including setting up patient rooms, assisting with patient early mobility, answering telephone and call bell, wound care, and more.
  • Maintains supply inventory needed to maintain daily operations. Stocks supplies, linen or office goods. Routinely reviews supplies to assure expiration dates are managed.
  • Performs BLS CPR and application and use of the Lucas equipment.
  • Maintains seizure precautions as directed by RN and application and maintenance of external urinary devices.
  • Collects blood culture and urine culture and performs oral care for non-vented patients.
  • Performs continuous observation for ensuring environment of safety for behavioral health patients with Provider order, under nursing delegation, and documentation of patient behavior.
  • Maintains mandatory education requirements that include hospital wide mandatory education, emergency skills and unit-based competencies.
  • Performs assigned roles as part of trauma and acute stroke response teams.
