About the position

The Education & Outreach Coordinator at the University of Oklahoma plays a vital role in the Office of Advocacy and Education (OAE), which is dedicated to providing educational opportunities for campus members regarding critical issues such as gender-based violence, sexual health education, consent education, and overall health and wellness. This position involves planning, coordinating, and facilitating outreach events, activities, and group presentations that aim to educate and empower students and staff on these important topics. The coordinator serves as a subject matter expert, creating content and delivering training on various subjects including consent education, sexual health, and prevention of gender-based violence. In addition to educational programming, the coordinator is responsible for developing and measuring student learning outcomes for OAE trainings and workshops. They act as a liaison between the Office of Advocacy and Education and Student Affairs, representing the office at campus-wide events and within the university community. The role also includes maintaining the OAE website, promoting the office through various advertising channels, including social media, and collaborating with other campus departments to implement social norming campaigns. The coordinator will also be involved in recruiting, hiring, training, and evaluating Peer Educators, as well as designing and managing student programs and services. A critical aspect of the role is serving as an After-Hours Coordinator and Advocate for OU Advocates, which provides 24/7 confidential advocacy services for individuals experiencing sexual assault, relationship violence, stalking, or gender-based harassment. The coordinator will provide information and counseling to students, facilitate support groups, and advise student organizations, ensuring a supportive environment for all students. Additionally, they will oversee data and record maintenance, assist with program planning and development, and may supervise program staff as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, coordinates and facilitates outreach events, activities and group presentations for the Office of Advocacy and Education (OAE).
  • Serves as a context expert and creator for topics such as consent education, sexual health education, gender-based violence prevention, alcohol and other drug consumption, and overall health and wellness.
  • Develops and measures student learning outcomes for OAE trainings and workshops.
  • Acts as a liaison for the Office of Advocacy and Education and Student Affairs at campus-wide events and within the university community.
  • Performs general website maintenance and updates for the OAE.
  • Promotes OAE through print and electronic advertising and marketing, including social media management.
  • Collaborates with campus and community departments to provide social norming campaigns.
  • Recruits, hires, trains, and evaluates Peer Educators.
  • Designs, implements, and manages designated student programs and services.
  • Serves as an After-Hours Coordinator & Advocate for OU Advocates, providing 24/7 confidential advocacy services.
  • Provides information and counseling to students, facilitating support groups, and advising student organizations.
  • Oversees data and record maintenance, including student files, inventory, personnel, and other office files.
  • Assists with program planning, development, and delivery.
  • May assist in the management of day-to-day operations or supervise program staff.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
  • 12 months of experience in student programming, student services, or closely related experience.
  • Alternatively, 48 months of related experience in lieu of the Bachelor's degree for a total of 60 months experience.
  • Extensive knowledge of and experience working on issues surrounding harm and/or culture change.
  • Ability to create and deliver effective training presentations.
  • Effective coaching and ability to deliver constructive feedback.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to build rapport with students, faculty, and staff.
  • Ability to work well with interdepartmental teams and initiatives.
