About the position

The Education Specialist at High Tech High is a vital role designed to support students with disabilities within the general education setting. This position requires a dedicated individual who is passionate about fostering an inclusive learning environment. The Education Specialist will be responsible for providing assessment services and, when necessary, developing, implementing, and supervising Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) for students. Collaboration is key in this role, as the Education Specialist will work closely with classroom teachers, parents, and guardians to monitor student progress towards IEP goals. Effective communication of needs, services, and accommodations to both staff and families is crucial to ensure that students receive the support they require to succeed. In addition to IEP management, the Education Specialist will provide individualized instruction and support to students with special needs, helping them thrive in a general education setting. This includes developing related goals and objectives, planning, and implementing strategies tailored to meet the unique needs of each student. The role also involves identifying and addressing students' social, emotional, and behavioral learning needs, utilizing Project-based Learning techniques to create engaging and relevant learning experiences. The Education Specialist will facilitate effective group work, foster student growth through semi-annual Student-led Conferences (SLC), and design assessments that accurately measure student progress. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication skills, the ability to demonstrate content knowledge aligned with California Common Core Standards, and a deep understanding of student cognitive development and diverse learning styles. Organizational skills, presentation abilities, and a commitment to providing emotional support to students and families are essential attributes for success in this role. High Tech High is looking for an innovative educator who is motivated by the principles of equity, personalization, authentic work, and collaborative design, and who is eager to contribute to a forward-thinking educational environment.
