About the position

At HP Hood LLC, we are seeking a self-driven Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Professional to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for implementing and managing various safety and environmental programs that align with federal and state regulations. You will design and deliver safety training, conduct job hazard analyses, and perform workplace safety inspections. Additionally, you will administer key safety programs, provide guidance on incident reporting and investigations, and partner with department leadership to drive our annual Safety Improvement Plan. Your efforts will contribute to promoting a positive safety culture within the plant, ensuring that all employees are engaged and informed about safety practices. On the environmental side, you will assist in managing all regulatory programs related to air, stormwater, wastewater, and hazardous materials. You will work with local, state, and federal regulatory agencies to ensure compliance with environmental regulations and reporting requirements. This position requires a proactive approach to both safety and environmental management, ensuring that our operations meet the highest standards of compliance and safety.

Responsibilities

  • Implement written EHS programs and policies aligned with federal and state requirements.
  • Design and deliver safety orientation and refresher training, perform job hazard analysis, and conduct workplace safety inspections.
  • Administer key programs such as hearing conservation, hazard communication, industrial hygiene, and contractor safety compliance.
  • Provide hands-on guidance to facility managers and supervisors regarding incident reporting/investigation to ensure company standards and processes are met.
  • Partner with department leadership teams to drive the annual Safety Improvement Plan.
  • Provide internal support for workers' compensation cases, serve as facility contact for claims questions, and interface with insurance adjusters, medical professionals, and injured workers.
  • Facilitate the plant Safety and Engagement Committee.
  • Promote a positive safety culture by developing and creating documents, work instructions, and visual aids to support positive employee communications and data delivery.
  • Assist with the management of all environmental regulatory programs for the plant, including air, stormwater, wastewater, hazardous materials, hazardous waste disposal, universal waste disposal, spill prevention, recycling, sustainability reporting, and regulatory reporting.
  • Work with local, state, and federal regulatory agencies to ensure compliance with environmental aspects, impacts, programs, and permits.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a BA/BS degree and 2 to 4 years of related experience preferred.
  • Degree in Environmental Health and Safety, Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or related discipline may be considered in lieu of related experience.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office required (e.g., Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
  • Knowledge of applicable federal and state regulations required.
  • Experience in a manufacturing setting preferred, food & beverage is a plus.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of federal and state safety and environmental regulatory programs.
  • Ability to work with and give direction to all departments affected or impacted by EHS programs.
  • Experience partnering with Quality, Sanitation, Processing, Packaging, and other departments to ensure compliance with Food Safety and GMP requirements.
  • Strong communication skills, able to speak clearly and persuasively in various situations.
  • Ability to seek feedback to improve performance and learn new skills.
