About the position

The Electrical Control Engineer at Byer Steel is responsible for planning, maintaining, and implementing PLC programs in the rebar mill and fabrication areas to enhance safety, quality, and operational uptime. This role involves troubleshooting electrical systems, creating manufacturing documentation, and assisting with IT systems, all while focusing on continuous improvement and efficiency.

Responsibilities

• Resolve complex or unusual problems independently and identify when additional resources are required.
• Focus on safety, quality, and operational efficiency.
• Maintain PLC programs and look for opportunities to improve.
• Troubleshoot electrical systems.
• Create manufacturing documentation including electrical schematics.
• Assist and maintain IT systems.
• Communicate effectively with teammates, customers, and vendors.
• Plan and implement process improvements to drive more uptime.

Requirements

• BSEE with 2-5 years of experience or BSME with 5-10 years of relevant experience.
• Experience in implementing communication protocols in PLC systems.
• Understanding of industrial machinery specifications and standards.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and shift focus between tasks/projects.
• PLC programming experience and troubleshooting skills.
• Strong problem-solving skills and judgment/decision-making abilities.

Nice-to-haves

• Ability to read measuring devices, drawings, blueprints, schematics, and electrical code specifications.
• Experience with overtime and weekend work as needed.
