About the position

As an Electrical Engineer, you will work with a group of talented and dedicated people to improve and extend Intuitive robotic product lines. You will contribute broadly to the Future Forward group, with focus on development of innovative electronics at the heart of Intuitive systems. As a member of the Future Forward engineering team, you will be involved in designing, implementing, and testing complex boards and integrate them into complete surgical robot solutions and seeing these through human use and product release. The successful candidate must excel in a high-energy small, focused team environment, be able to drive to solutions from rough requirements and methodical prototype iterations and have a commitment to high product quality that places patients first. Quick learning and a desire to understand requirements from a user's and engineering's perspective are essential to become a valuable system developer. A strong sense of shared responsibility and shared reward is required, as is the ability to make work fun and interesting. Supporting you will be a development and management team that knows and cares about what you are doing and wants you to succeed.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement and test board prototypes as part of a broader platform development effort.
  • Participate in cross-functional requirements and architecture definition, representing the Electrical Engineering function.
  • Follow best design methods and practices, to meet product requirements and integrate design outputs into effective system designs.
  • Utilize 'first principles' thinking when diagnosing design and manufacturing issues, providing domain-relevant expertise and support to other functions.
  • Broadly contribute to the advancement of electronics technology.
  • Participate in the design controls process in compliance with the Intuitive Quality Management System, including thorough documentation of design requirements, specifications and risk analyses; to ensure that medical device designs meet product quality, statutory and safety requirements.

Requirements

  • Experience with mixed signal design, embedded system design, and PCBA design for harsh environments.
  • Hardware development experience in a fast-paced, high-visibility environment, preferably in medical surgical or therapeutic products.
  • Familiarity with all phases of the product development lifecycle, including design, implementation, debug, verification, qualification, and transfer to manufacturing.
  • Solid hands-on engineering skills and ability to work well in a team environment.
  • Knowledge of electrical component manufacturing processes, analog and digital circuit design, PCBA design for noise mitigation, and rapid prototyping.
  • Understanding of component selection criteria, design for reliability and manufacturability.
  • Excellent communication skills (written and oral) across all levels and organizations.
  • Knowledge of FPGA design preferred.
  • Comfortable with C/C++, Python and Matlab.

Benefits

  • Market-competitive compensation packages, inclusive of base pay, incentives, benefits, and equity.
