About the position

Mott MacDonald is seeking an Electrical Engineer to join their team in Pittsburgh, PA. The role involves supporting multi-disciplinary engineering efforts on various infrastructure projects, including water/wastewater facilities and transportation systems. The engineer will be responsible for producing design deliverables, performing calculations, providing project support during construction, and ensuring effective communication with stakeholders. The position emphasizes continuous improvement and professional development within a collaborative team environment.

Responsibilities

  • Support and/or lead design engineering efforts on infrastructure projects including rail/vehicular tunnels, water/wastewater facilities, marine ports, and airports.
  • Produce conceptual, preliminary, and detailed design contract deliverables such as contract drawings, technical specifications, and construction cost estimates.
  • Perform necessary calculations to support engineering designs including load flow and arc flash hazard studies.
  • Provide electrical support for projects under construction, addressing RFIs, reviewing submittals, and evaluating change orders.
  • Conduct field visits and inspections during project design and construction phases.
  • Prepare thorough and accurate project technical reports and documentation.
  • Plan, estimate, schedule, coordinate, and monitor work activities, ensuring interdisciplinary coordination.
  • Continuously improve job-related technical expertise and professional knowledge.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited program.
  • Registered Professional Engineering License preferred; candidates with FE or EIT status will also be considered.
  • 5-8 years of experience in Electrical Engineering and Design, preferably in transportation and water/wastewater projects.
  • Field observation and data acquisition experience.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a proactive approach.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and supervise deliverables.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills, including technical writing.
  • Ability to build strong relationships with clients and stakeholders.
  • Willingness to travel for design or construction inspection purposes.
  • Familiarity with the National Electrical Code (NFPA 70), NFPA 70E, and NFPA 70B.

Nice-to-haves

  • Basic understanding of SCADA, instrumentation, and control systems.
  • CADD experience with AutoCAD, MicroStation, and/or REVIT.
  • Experience with power system study modeling software such as SKM or ETAP.
