About the position

The Electrical Equipment Engineer position at GE Gas Power involves contributing to the specification and design of key electrical equipment for power plants. This role is critical in ensuring the efficient and safe operation of generator power equipment and protection systems, with a focus on both technical specifications and project execution. The position is based in Schenectady, NY, and requires collaboration with global teams to support the installation and commissioning of electrical systems.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare functional specifications based on site requirements, contracts, local codes, international standards, and internal design practices.
  • Support supplier design evaluation and review technical offers.
  • Review and validate technical documentation on projects.
  • Support site teams during the installation and commissioning of equipment.
  • Customize generator protection functions and prepare functional specifications for protection systems.
  • Review protection settings based on vendor calculation notes.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in Medium or High Voltage systems of power plant installations.
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering with 5 years' experience or a master's degree in electrical engineering.
  • Fluency with MS Office applications.
  • Good understanding of short circuit current in power plants, current rating, protection studies, and insulation levels.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with a certification for professional engineer in the state (UL, CSA, ANSI, NEMA, NFPA, IEEE).
  • Familiarity with OSHA requirements.
  • Expertise in power plant equipment including Generator Power Evacuation Equipment, Transformer, Switchgear, Generator Circuit Breaker, and Generator Protection Panel.
  • Passion for technical challenges and project execution.
  • Experience working with digital relays.
