About the position

The Electrical Power Systems Test Engineer III will play a crucial role in the Lunar Permanence business unit at Blue Origin, focusing on the development and testing of high and low voltage flight hardware for space exploration. This position involves creating test plans, conducting verification testing, and troubleshooting hardware and software issues, all while ensuring safety and repeatability in space flight operations. The engineer will collaborate with a diverse team to support the integration of vehicle hardware and contribute to the overall mission of enabling sustainable infrastructure for lunar transport.

Responsibilities

  • Develop test plans, procedures, and scripts for shock, vibration, thermal, humidity, and vacuum testing on flight hardware.
  • Conduct verification testing including power-on, functional, acceptance, and qualification tests, documenting results for power distribution and regulation hardware.
  • Support integration of vehicle hardware and analysis tooling to verify performance of units under test.
  • Debug and troubleshoot hardware and software issues in a lab environment.
  • Assist in wiring, hardware installation, and test bench setup for integration and test activities.
  • Provide feedback on integration and testability during design and system reviews throughout the project phases.
  • Participate in technology development, mission assurance, safety initiatives, and process improvements.
  • Communicate development status, risks, and challenges to management.

Requirements

  • B.S. in electrical engineering or related technical discipline
  • 5+ years of relevant experience
  • Understanding of electronics hardware development, including high voltage switching and power regulation
  • Experience with analog, digital, or mixed-signal circuit design
  • Knowledge of signal integrity, power, grounding, and board layout principles
  • Experience developing and troubleshooting electronic test equipment
  • Proficient in standard electronic lab tests and troubleshooting equipment
  • Experience with programming in C++ and/or Python
  • Familiarity with NI Lab/TestStand
  • Good written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident, or lawfully admitted into the U.S.

Nice-to-haves

  • M.S. degree in electrical engineering or related technical discipline
  • 7+ years of relevant experience
  • Experience with large-scale verification of avionics on autonomous spaceflight systems
  • Experience supporting testbeds for spaceflight systems
  • Familiarity with electrical design and analysis tools such as LTSpice, PSpice, SIMetrix/SIMPLIS, Simscape
