About the position

The Electrical Supervisor at Northern Kentucky University is responsible for overseeing the performance of preventive maintenance, repairs, installations, and modifications to various electrical systems and equipment on campus. This role involves planning, prioritizing, and supervising the work of staff, ensuring compliance with safety standards and regulations, and maintaining service records. The position is critical to the university's operations and requires flexibility in work hours to meet the needs of the Facilities Management Operations & Maintenance Department.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, prioritize, assign, supervise, review, and participate in the work of staff responsible for the university's electrical and lighting systems.
  • Estimate the time and material cost of work orders and projects, and share supported data with the Superintendent.
  • Order and purchase materials according to established guidelines and within budgetary constraints.
  • Maintain material inventories and service, repair, and other records as required.
  • Establish preventive maintenance schedules and recommend priorities of repair projects.
  • Respond to after-hour emergency situations as directed.
  • Inspect completed work to ensure compliance with blueprints, specifications, and applicable codes.
  • Conduct periodic inspections of university electrical systems to determine repair needs.
  • Install, service, maintain, regulate, repair, and replace electrical fixtures and equipment to comply with relevant codes and guidelines.
  • Safely use all tools of the electrical trade and inspect equipment to ensure safety and functionality.
  • Supervise various personnel actions including hiring, performance evaluations, and vacation schedules.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, and contract specifications.
  • Train and coordinate training in Electrical Maintenance and Safety methods, procedures, and techniques.
  • Adjust working hours and/or work overtime as needed to meet the needs of the University.
  • Perform related duties as assigned and assist other trades as needed.

Requirements

  • Prefer Vocational Degree in Electrical.
  • Supervisory/personnel management training strongly preferred.
  • High school diploma/GED with Electrician's License and 5 years of related experience, two of which are in a supervisory capacity.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Kentucky State Electrical Journeyman License.
  • Above average computer skills.
  • Ability to communicate clearly both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to work with various types of related equipment.
  • Ability to stand, walk, stoop, reach, pull, kneel, push, and work in confined spaces.
  • Ability to perform medium heavy and maximum physical exertion and lift up to 50 lbs or more regularly.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with elevator systems.
  • Additional certifications related to electrical work.
