About the position
The Electronics Technical Associate position at the University at Buffalo involves performing diagnostic assessments and repairs on electrical systems of scientific instrumentation used in teaching and research. The role requires expertise in troubleshooting and maintaining a variety of laboratory equipment, ensuring effective service within the Electronics Shop, and supervising student workers as needed.
Responsibilities
- Perform diagnostic assessments and repairs on a broad array of electrical instrumentation utilized in chemistry teaching and research programs.
- Diagnose RF, high voltage, analog, and digital circuit failures using standard testing equipment such as voltmeters and oscilloscopes.
- Perform computer/hardware interfacing as required, meeting specifications of instrumentation and manufacturer software.
- Troubleshoot equipment malfunctions and perform upgrades and repairs of instrumentation, including diagnosing and replacing soldered on-board components.
- Contribute to the design and fabrication of new specialized equipment based on user specifications.
- Manage work orders, keep records, schedule jobs, and update customers on job status.
- Maintain test equipment, inventory of commonly used tools/parts, and a library of relevant information.
- Serve as a liaison between the department and other service departments within and outside of the college.
- Supervise student workers or interns when required.
- Act as the subject matter expert for researchers regarding electrical circuitry and safety.
Requirements
- A minimum of an associate's degree with 2 years of experience, or a combination of degree, certification, and experience considered in lieu of degree requirements.
- At least one year of relevant experience.
