About The Position

The Boyden-Hull Community Schools is seeking a Full-Time Paraprofessional to support the educational process in the elementary school. This role involves assisting teachers in various instructional and administrative tasks, ensuring a conducive learning environment for students, and providing support tailored to individual student needs.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience working with children in an educational setting is preferred.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work collaboratively with teachers and staff.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Patience and understanding in dealing with students.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in special education or working with diverse student populations.
  • Knowledge of classroom management techniques.
  • Familiarity with educational technology and audio-visual equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Administer, score, and record achievement and diagnostic tests as recommended by the teacher.
  • Assist the teacher in devising special strategies for reinforcing material or skills based on individual student needs.
  • Operate and care for classroom equipment used for instructional purposes.
  • Help students master equipment or instructional materials assigned by the teacher.
  • Distribute and collect workbooks, papers, and other instructional materials.
  • Guide independent study, enrichment work, and remedial work set up by the teacher.
  • Assist with the supervision of students during emergency drills, assemblies, play periods, and field trips.
  • Maintain bulletin boards and other classroom displays.
  • Read to students and engage in oral communication with them.
  • Assist students in the library or media center.
  • Check notebooks, correct papers, and supervise testing and make-up work as assigned by the teacher.
  • Check and record student attendance.
  • Collect and record money as needed.
  • Assist students with their clothing and personal needs.
  • Help with lunch, snack, and clean-up routines.
  • Assist with wash-up and toilet routines.
  • Alert the teacher to any problems or special information about individual students.
  • Serve as the chief source of information for substitute teachers in the absence of the regular teacher.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student information and ethical behavior.
  • Participate in in-service training programs as assigned.
  • Coordinate instructional efforts with the classroom teacher.
  • Prepare lesson outlines and plans for review by the teacher.
  • Develop various teaching aids such as bibliographies, charts, and graphs.
  • Assist in individual and group instruction under the teacher's supervision.
  • Supervise students in various areas including the playground and lunchroom.
  • Monitor classes during short teacher absences.
  • Operate audio-visual equipment as needed.
  • Perform clerical tasks such as making calls, filing, and maintaining student records.
  • Assist in the office as requested.
  • Exhibit patience and fairness with students while following behavior management plans.
  • Know emergency procedures for the building and classrooms.
  • Contribute to an effective and efficient school district.
