About the position

K12, a Stride Company, is dedicated to providing families with an online option for a high-quality, personalized education experience. The Elementary Special Education Teacher plays a crucial role in this mission by delivering specific course content in an online environment tailored to meet the individual needs of students with special needs. This position requires a state-certified teacher who is responsible for providing instruction, support, and guidance to students, managing the learning process, and ensuring compliance with each student's Individualized Education Program (IEP). The teacher will work closely with students and their families to foster an engaging and effective learning environment. The Special Education Teacher will be responsible for developing compliant IEPs, progress reports, and other required documentation while facilitating collaborative meetings such as annual IEP meetings. The role involves using provided resources to ensure that accommodations and modifications are made for students with disabilities, including the use of assistive technology and accessible curriculum materials. The teacher will also collect data to monitor student progress towards IEP goals, document all interactions with parents and students, and analyze student data to inform instructional decisions. This full-time position requires the ability to work independently, typically 40+ hours per week, and maintain a professional home office environment. The teacher will be expected to provide rich and engaging synchronous and asynchronous learning experiences, maintain a grade book, prepare students for standardized tests, and establish positive rapport with families. Additionally, the role may require up to 20% travel for professional development and student testing.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver specific course content in an online environment for students with special needs.
  • Provide instruction, support, and guidance to students as defined by their Individualized Education Program (IEP).
  • Communicate with parents and related service staff to ensure appropriate therapies are provided.
  • Develop compliant IEPs, progress reports, and other required special education documentation.
  • Facilitate and lead collaborative special education meetings, including annual IEP meetings.
  • Use resources to ensure accommodations and modifications for students with disabilities.
  • Make modifications to lessons and assessments as specified by the IEP.
  • Ensure inclusion and success of students in the general education classroom.
  • Collect data and work samples to monitor student progress towards IEP goals.
  • Document all contact with parents and interventions with students.
  • Analyze student data to prescribe remediation and enrichment as needed.
  • Provide engaging synchronous and asynchronous learning experiences for students.
  • Maintain a grade book and alert administrators to concerns about student performance.
  • Prepare students for high stakes standardized tests.
  • Establish and maintain positive rapport with families and communicate regularly with them.
  • Support learning coaches/parents with curricular and instructional issues.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Education or related field.
  • Active State Special Education teaching license.
  • Six months of student teaching experience.
  • Ability to clear required background checks.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other teachers and interpret student data.
  • Receptive to coaching and feedback from administrators.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Benefits

  • Base salary of $44,000 plus eligibility for a performance bonus.
