About the position

The Multilingual Learners (MLL) Coordinator / ELD Coordinator is responsible for planning, organizing, and implementing a high-quality instructional program to support literacy development for students in grades 9-12. This role involves close collaboration with English Language Development Teachers to support multilingual learners. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in English Learner (EL) instruction, language acquisition, and program development, ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations while fostering an inclusive and equitable learning environment for all students.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and evaluate programs for multilingual learners (MLs) in alignment with state and federal guidelines.
  • Provide leadership in the development of instructional strategies that support language acquisition and academic success for multilingual learners.
  • Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations, including Title III and EL program mandates.
  • Oversee and manage the identification, assessment, placement, and reclassification processes for multilingual learners.
  • Develop and implement programs to engage families of multilingual learners in their children's education.
  • Create lesson plans to improve literacy.
  • Instruct individual students or small groups of students.
  • Coach students on techniques and skills to improve literacy.
  • Design intervention plans for students who could benefit from more literacy support.
  • Collaborate with teachers or other specialists to determine how to best help students.
  • Develop and deliver professional development workshops for teachers and staff on best practices for teaching multilingual learners.
  • Meet with parents or guardians to discuss their child's progress.
  • Improve students' skills to help them pass state tests.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with students, families, administrators, general educators, educational specialists, and support staff.
  • Communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Report to work on a regular and punctual basis.
  • Implement relevant technology within the classroom curriculum and setting.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of subject matter/course content and resources relevant to assignment.
  • Meet professional teacher education requirements of school/district and state.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
  • California Teaching Credential (recommended).
  • California Multiple Subject Teaching Credential (preferred).
  • Strong knowledge of second language acquisition theories, instructional practices, and assessment tools for MLs.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience working with multilingual learners in a K-12 educational setting.
  • CPR Certification.
