About the position

The Embedded Clinician - Coordinator of the Ascend Program at Bowling Green State University (BGSU) is a full-time position focused on providing culturally competent counseling and psychological services to students. This role involves not only direct clinical services but also consultation with faculty, staff, families, and others concerned about student well-being. The clinician will engage in various therapeutic modalities, including individual, group, and couples counseling, crisis intervention, and psychoeducation. The position requires the clinician to act as a liaison between the Counseling Center and specific campus areas, ensuring that mental health services are effectively integrated into the student experience. As the Coordinator of the Ascend Program, the clinician will provide individual and group therapy services, case management, and collaborate closely with prescribers to ensure continuity of care for students enrolled in the program. The clinician will also engage in outreach and consultation activities, facilitating psychoeducational programming and working collaboratively with other campus staff to identify and address student mental health needs. This role includes providing clinical supervision for Counseling Center trainees and facilitating training seminars, ensuring that the next generation of mental health professionals is well-prepared to serve the student population. In addition to clinical responsibilities, the Embedded Clinician will be involved in administrative tasks, including documentation, case management, and participation in committee work within the Counseling Center and the broader Division of Student Health and Wellness. The clinician is expected to engage in professional development activities and contribute to the overall mission of the Counseling Center to promote student well-being and mental health awareness on campus.

Responsibilities

  • Provide culturally competent psychotherapy and counseling for individuals, groups, and/or couples for the BGSU student body.
  • Engage in clinical consultation with students.
  • Provide crisis services during normal business office hours.
  • As the Coordinator of the Ascend Program, provide individual and group therapy services and case management for students enrolled in the program.
  • Work closely with prescriber for coordination and continuity of care for Ascend Program students.
  • Engage in third-party consultation with faculty, staff, families, students, and others about mental health concerns impacting students.
  • Facilitate and/or coordinate outreach and psychoeducational programming.
  • Perform liaison activities to identify student needs and develop mental health services to meet those needs.
  • Provide clinical supervision for Counseling Center trainees enrolled in graduate programs in mental health fields.
  • Facilitate training seminars and programs for Counseling Center trainees.
  • Coordinate or oversee various activities and/or functions in the Center, including group services and outreach programming.
  • Complete documentation and case management in a timely manner.
  • Provide service to the Counseling Center and participate in committee work.
  • Engage in professional development activities.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Counseling with a license as a Professional Clinical Counselor (LPC) by start date.
  • Master's Degree in Social Work with a license as an Independent Social Worker (LISW) by start date.
  • Doctorate degree in Clinical or Counseling Psychology by start date.
  • 1 year of counseling experience, with a doctoral internship year acceptable or 1 year of Master's degree internship.
  • Maintenance of licensure as in the State of Ohio throughout employment period.
  • Doctoral degrees in Clinical or Counseling Psychology must be licensed as a psychologist within 1 year of hire date.
  • LPC applicants must obtain LPCC within two years of hiring date.
  • LPCC applicants must obtain the supervisor credential (LPCC-S) within 12 months of hire.
