About the position

The Emergency Communications Coordinator (ECC) plays a crucial role in ensuring effective communication between ambulances and medical helicopters operating within West Virginia EMS Region II and its surrounding areas. This position is vital for coordinating the appropriate transport modes for patients requiring interfacility transfers to access tertiary care services. The ECC will be responsible for monitoring and managing communications to ensure timely and efficient responses to emergencies, thereby enhancing patient care and safety. The role requires a deep understanding of emergency medical services (EMS) operations, as well as the ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment. The ECC will also be tasked with maintaining accurate records of communications and transport arrangements, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and protocols. This position demands a proactive approach to problem-solving and the ability to collaborate effectively with various stakeholders, including emergency medical personnel, hospitals, and other healthcare providers.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate communications with ambulances and medical helicopters in WV EMS Region II and surrounding areas.
  • Arrange appropriate transport modes for interfacility patient transfers requiring tertiary care services.
  • Monitor and manage emergency communications to ensure timely responses.
  • Maintain accurate records of communications and transport arrangements.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant regulations and protocols in EMS operations.

Requirements

  • Junior College/Technical School education is required.
  • WV EMT-Paramedic Certification is required.
  • ACLS, BTLS/PHTLS, PEPP, PALS certifications are required.
  • Instructor rating in at least one of the above listed courses is preferred.
  • 5+ years of position-related experience is preferred.
  • Experience as an EMT-Paramedic with a field emergency medical services (EMS) program is required.
  • Knowledge of EMS communications theory and positive customer service practices is helpful.
