About the position

The EMPI Analyst is responsible for maintaining the integrity of the Master Patient Index (EMPI) within Atlantic Health System. This role involves analyzing work queues to identify and merge medical records, ensuring that each patient has a unique EMPI number, and performing chart corrections and identity investigations to uphold data integrity across facilities and electronic medical records (EMRs).

Responsibilities

• Maintains integrity of the enterprise-wide Master Patient Index to ensure patient health information resides under a unique EMPI number.
• Performs analytical reviews of clinical and demographic information and verifies assignment of duplicate numbers to the same person to ensure patient safety.
• Maintains all assigned HIM Data Integrity Services work queues and reports.
• Communicates and collaborates with internal and external customers to resolve complex chart issues.
• Assists in identification and communication for areas of non-compliance with established policies and procedures to decrease the creation of duplicate medical records, overlays and other data integrity issues.
• Demonstrates advanced critical thinking, reasoning, problem solving, and decision-making abilities.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Bachelors or Associate degree in Health Information Management, Health Information Technology, or related field.
• Bachelor or Associate degree with two years of related experience or an equivalent of work history, education and relevant experience.
• Epic experience preferred.
• RHIA/RHIT preferred.
