The Energy Assistance Worker position at the Lackawanna County Assistance Office (CAO) is a seasonal role focused on assisting individuals in applying for heating assistance through the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP). Responsibilities

  • Process initial benefit applications and CRISIS applications for LIHEAP.
  • Interview clients to assist them in applying for heating assistance.
  • Act as a liaison with heating vendors to facilitate the application process.
  • Review and complete applications received for accuracy and compliance with regulations.
  • Recommend approval or disapproval of benefits based on federal and state guidelines.
  • Perform data entry and maintain accurate records of applications and client interactions.

Requirements

  • Two years of experience in general office work that included interviewing the public.
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience working in a government or public service role.
  • Familiarity with energy assistance programs or social services.

Benefits

  • Non-permanent full-time seasonal employment from approximately October to April.
  • Work hours are Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM with a 60-minute lunch break.
