About the position

The Energy Market Financial Analyst will perform advanced financial modeling and analysis for energy asset optimization, risk management, and complex transactions. This role combines deep expertise in energy market fundamentals, regulatory landscapes, policy and risk management with strong financial modeling skills. You will analyze market trends, transaction structures, and regulatory developments to inform energy procurement and risk management strategies. You will develop and maintain dynamic financial models to evaluate complex data center transactions, focusing on optimizing electricity costs and navigating global power markets.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain financial models for energy cost analysis, hedging strategies, and complex transactions (acquisitions, leases, joint ventures).
  • Perform sensitivity analyses, provide scenario-based insights, and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
  • Conduct in-depth analysis of power market trends, pricing fluctuations, and regulatory changes.
  • Monitor factors influencing electricity prices, including supply/demand, weather, and grid dynamics.
  • Utilize climate modeling and AI for forecasting.
  • Stay informed about regulatory developments, analyze market design impacts, and maintain expertise in energy regulatory stakeholders and policy.
  • Provide analytical support for energy management strategies, monitor grid growth and renewable integration, and support the transition to energy production.
  • Collaborate with operations, finance, and legal teams.
  • Communicate effectively across diverse cultures.
  • Understand regional market challenges and the impact of global events on energy markets.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in finance, economics, or related fields with exceptional quantitative analysis skills including Excel.
  • 3-5 years of experience in energy market analysis or a related financial field.
  • Strong financial modeling skills.
  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills.
  • Some Software programming skills are a plus.
  • Experience with risk management.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with power market operations and regulations.
  • Location in Austin, Texas.
  • Experience with markets in London, Norway, or Dubai.
