About the position

The Engineer I position in the Legacy Mechanical/Chemical/Welding Engineering Program at Palo Verde is designed for recent graduates who are eager to develop their engineering skills in a dynamic and supportive environment. This comprehensive orientation training program lasts approximately nine months and is structured to provide new engineers with a robust foundation in various engineering disciplines. Participants will engage in a combination of on-the-job training, rotations through different engineering and site departments, technical classroom training, and briefings from subject matter experts. This cohort-based program allows engineers to learn and grow together, fostering collaboration and teamwork. Upon successful completion of the program, each engineer will be assigned to a specific work group within the Palo Verde organization, where they will apply their skills to real-world projects and challenges. As part of Arizona Public Service (APS), the largest energy provider in the state, engineers in this program will contribute to the company's mission of generating clean, reliable, and affordable energy for over 2.7 million Arizonans. The Legacy Program is a critical pipeline for hiring new engineers, emphasizing the importance of developing talent to meet the future energy needs of Arizona. Engineers will be expected to assist in various technical and analytical tasks, ensuring that their work aligns with APS's commitment to operational excellence and customer satisfaction. Responsibilities

  • Assists in the analysis and preparation of a variety of data, technical reviews and evaluations, trend analyses, and technology assessments to aid decision making.
  • Prepares engineering plans, designs, specifications, cost estimates, scheduling, evaluations, and studies, ensuring compliance with established standards and regulations.
  • Interfaces with customers and other departments to ensure project objectives are understood and met within budget and schedule.
  • Provides technical and field support to internal staff and customers, troubleshooting and initiating corrective action plans as necessary.
  • Participates in the preparation of business cases and operational plans for proposed projects.
  • Contacts customers and management to obtain or present technical data, presenting results of designs and studies to various stakeholders.
  • Maintains awareness of current technology and engineering developments to enhance individual technical capabilities.

Requirements

  • A four-year Bachelor of Science degree in an engineering discipline or related applied science discipline from an ABET accredited institution.
  • Knowledge and ability to apply basic engineering principles, practices, and theories.
  • Experience with commonly applied engineering approaches and calculations.
  • Problem analysis and resolution techniques.

Nice-to-haves

  • BS or above in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or Welding Engineering from an ABET accredited institution.
