About The Position

The Engineer II Gas Engineering position at Madison Gas and Electric Company (MGE) is designed for an experienced engineer who will provide technical expertise and project coordination within the Gas Engineering department. The role involves managing both large and small-scale natural gas engineering projects, ensuring compliance with various regulations, and collaborating with multiple stakeholders to deliver effective solutions for gas distribution.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited program or equivalent.
  • Minimum of two years of experience in natural gas project design, planning, and control or similar experience (internship/co-op experience may be included).
  • Ability to become a registered Professional Engineer in Wisconsin within five years.
  • Ability to review and understand construction drawings.
  • Knowledge of computerized techniques for designing and maintaining natural gas systems.
  • Experience with CAD and GIS software preferred.
  • Experience with GPS and survey equipment preferred.
  • National Association of Corrosion Engineers certification preferred.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Experience with renewable natural gas (RNG) and/or liquified natural gas (LNG) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, and engineer large- and small-scale natural gas engineering projects independently.
  • Coordinate with Gas Operations staff to ensure successful project completion while satisfying customer needs.
  • Manage third-party engineering firms to design gas distribution mains, services, regulator stations, and appurtenances.
  • Analyze road construction plans to identify conflicts with gas facilities and design solutions around municipal facilities.
  • Collaborate with engineers, contractors, and developers to resolve conflicts with natural gas facilities and maintain service to existing customers.
  • Lead or assist with Gas Engineering planning for new plats, gas forecasting, and system improvements.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor compliance with procedures and permitting to adhere to environmental, state, and federal codes.
  • Perform analysis of existing conditions and develop traffic control plans that meet local, state, and federal requirements.
  • Work with municipalities to comply with archeological, stormwater runoff, and other environmental regulations.
  • Conduct data analysis to engineer solutions for corrosion, pressure, and risk management in Gas Engineering.
  • Train new Gas Engineering resources.
