The Engineer Mechanical 1 position at Huntington Ingalls Industries (HII) involves researching, planning, designing, and developing mechanical products and systems for the production, transmission, measurement, and use of energy. This entry-level role is aimed at ambitious individuals who will be trained to apply fundamental engineering principles to solve critical problems in a fast-paced environment, specifically in the context of building and overhauling nuclear-powered aircraft carriers and submarines for the U.S. Navy.

Responsibilities

  • Perform engineering calculations, analysis, research, and design.
  • Provide engineering support to designers and tradesmen.
  • Analyze mechanical and/or electrical failures and problems and provide engineering solutions to return ships to service.
  • Provide technical recommendations and documents to internal and external customers.
  • Effectively communicate and engage with team members.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with hydraulic systems.
  • Knowledge of engines, generators, pumps, turbines.
  • Familiarity with controls and robotics.
  • Understanding of thermal hydraulic/heat transfer systems.
