About the position

As an Senior Manager( Engineering Manager) you have the overall responsibility for the planning and delivery of typically one single project of medium scope, or more than one small product or projects. This includes all aspects of the project, from initial planning to final delivery. Manages the project teams associated with the project, including recruiting and managing resources for the project, as well as coaching and mentoring members of the team to progress on their career paths. Coordinates with key constituents outside of PD, including PMG, Sales, Support, Services, and customers. NOTE: Must be in the Dallas metro area OR Scottsdale metro area, United States. This is not a fully remote role. Spending some time in the office with the team will be highly beneficial and necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees the development, support, maintenance, and implementation of projects and product through managers.
  • Completes end-to-end project management including release planning, delivery, monitoring progress, and reporting.
  • Identifies functional and technical linkages across the organization for inter-departmental collaboration.
  • Develops appropriate processes and roadmaps including technology, hiring plans, training requirements, and staffing.
  • Interacts with customers and other departments to understand or negotiate information on projects/products and development activities.
  • Contributes to product architecture and functionality decisions.
  • Reviews project milestones, deliverables, and quality of teams to identify risk and mitigation.
  • Identifies risks and defines mitigation plans.
  • Resolves escalated impediments, facilitates cross-team communication to resolve impediments when needed.
  • Contributes to quality metric definition.
  • Reviews quality metrics and determines remediation plans.
  • Ensures teams follow and adhere to Agile development processes and standards.
  • Provides feedback to managers and architects on career path, and guides them in continuous development and learning.
  • Conducts appraisals, provides feedback, and handles work allocations for direct reports.
  • Uses expert people management skills to attract, motivate, and retain talent.
  • Provides budget input for capital expenditure and operational expenses of the team.
  • Advises senior management on specific project issues.

Requirements

  • At least 12+ years of experience in a Software Engineering role in a large Enterprise software development environment.
  • 5+ years of experience managing a team of software engineers of 5 or more and also architects and guiding them as Technical Lead.
  • Experience mentoring and developing backend and/or client software engineers.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong knowledge of Java, Microservices, JavaScript, Pivotal Cloud Foundry, SpringBoot.
  • Strong knowledge of SQL and cloud native applications.
  • Strong knowledge of any Cloud platforms like AWS, GCP or Azure.
  • Knowledge of working with Agile software methodologies i.e Scrum, eXtreme Programming.
  • Background with JavaScript, client-side MVC frameworks (e.g., Angular, React, Vue).
  • Proficiency with continuous integration/continuous delivery tools and pipelines (e.g., GitHub, Maven, Gradle, Tekton, Kubernetes).
  • Alerting and Monitoring experience with ELK/Dynatrace/Splunk.
