About the position

As an Engineering Manager of the Traffic team at Nextdoor, the team will play a critical role in attracting new users by ensuring their initial experiences with our platform are both engaging and valuable. You will lead a talented team of engineers tasked with architecting, developing, and maintaining essential external surfaces, including those involving third-party integrations. Your efforts will focus on growing our organic user acquisition channels and driving intentional traffic to Nextdoor. As a key player in our team’s efforts, you will oversee the optimization of SEO strategies and other traffic-driving mechanisms, such as content sharing and user invites. This role requires close collaboration with cross-functional partners to effectively support the implementation of cutting-edge solutions. In your capacity as a technical leader, you will guide your team through complex projects and challenges while managing the professional development and growth of each team member. Your leadership will be pivotal in advancing both the team's objectives and the overall mission of enhancing user experiences on Nextdoor.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage a team of engineers
  • Work with other Nextdoor product tech to build the next engaging content
  • Partner closely with Product and Data Science to deliver and measure product impact
  • Make significant technical contributions to presenting content through discovering unique insights in our data
  • Oversee the development of scalable and reliable full stack technologies with a focus on performance that drives millions of interactions each week
  • Participate in all aspects of the product development for a major product area; from strategy, research, prototyping, concept to interaction design, to final QA and code tweaks right before launch
  • Participate in cross-functional brainstorms, discussions, design reviews and interesting and inspiring design team activities
  • Participate in in-person Nextdoor events, trainings, off-sites, volunteer days, and other team building exercises
  • Build in-person relationships with team members and contribute to the KIND culture that Nextdoor values
  • Participate in hiring outstanding talent and develop the engineering resources in the organization
  • Own and drive operational metrics of the Traffic team

Requirements

  • 1+ years of people management and/or the ability to perform at an advanced level in the domain
  • Track record of hiring, building and developing high performance engineers
  • Experience in user-generated content product development
  • Deep empathy for customer needs and insights as well as an intuitive grasp of the business problems we’re trying to solve
  • Comfort working across the product development spectrum: strategy, ideation, concept work, up to the delivery of the consumption experience
  • Track record of engineering excellence and operations (monitoring, alarming, sev, post-mortem, etc) for your team
