About the position

This position is a federal role located in Pierre, SD, with an open application period from December 20, 2024, to June 30, 2025. To qualify, applicants must demonstrate sufficient experience and/or education to perform the duties of the position. This includes both paid and unpaid experience, such as volunteer work through National Service programs like the Peace Corps or AmeriCorps. Applicants must clearly identify their duties and responsibilities in each position held, including the total number of hours worked per week. The position has various qualification levels ranging from GS-05 to GS-10, each with specific educational and experience requirements related to engineering, construction, or industrial technology.

Responsibilities

  • Complete or modify design drawings and as-built drawings in Auto CAD/Civil 3D and Arc View/GIS software.
  • Maintain GIS archives for completed and ongoing project data and drawing files.
  • Develop GIS data models in enterprise relational databases.
  • Utilize custom tools and scripts to automate analysis and data processing.
  • Create and/or update GIS data to develop or populate the GIS database.
  • Input data received from different disciplines such as design, environmental, real estate, and surveying.
  • Update, maintain, and prepare installation maps.
  • Advise users of GIS files to ensure proper construction and interpretation of drawings.
  • Maintain AutoCAD interface GIS service.
  • Verify accuracy and consistency of data and resolve technical conflicts.
  • Assist customers in using spatial and statistical methods to analyze geographic information.
  • Direct daily activities of the GIS system and develop schedules to meet project needs.

Requirements

  • Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree in an appropriate field of engineering, construction, or industrial technology.
  • At least 24 semester hours in courses such as engineering, industrial technology, construction, physics, drafting, surveying, physical science, or mathematics.
  • One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-04 grade level for GS-05 applicants.
  • One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-05 grade level for GS-06 applicants.
  • One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-06 grade level for GS-07 applicants.
  • One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-07 grade level for GS-08 applicants.
  • One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-08 grade level for GS-09 applicants.
  • One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-09 grade level for GS-10 applicants.
