About The Position

The Engineering Technician I position involves routine paraprofessional engineering work primarily focused on sanitary engineering and compliance with drinking water regulations. The role includes drafting, data entry, and fieldwork related to the monitoring and analysis of public water systems to ensure compliance with state and federal drinking water acts. The incumbent will participate in environmental compliance activities, including sampling and report writing, under the supervision of higher-level engineering staff.

Requirements

  • Valid driver's license and access to an automobile for work-related duties.
  • Knowledge of basic mathematics and ability to perform basic calculations.
  • Ability to follow technical instructions and understand engineering data.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in environmental compliance or public health programs.
  • Familiarity with the Safe Drinking Water Act and related regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine paraprofessional engineering work using simple engineering or surveying practices and equipment.
  • Conduct routine drafting work of limited difficulty related to Drinking Water Programs.
  • Monitor public water systems for compliance with federal and state drinking water regulations.
  • Collect drinking water samples for chemical, radiological, and physical quality analysis.
  • Evaluate water analysis results to ensure compliance with potability requirements.
  • Investigate water quality complaints and sanitary nuisances affecting public health.
  • Draft compliance and enforcement documents such as Compliance Assistance Letters and Warning Letters.
  • Provide customer service and assist owners/operators with compliance issues.
  • Participate in training sessions and maintain knowledge of environmental health regulations.
