The Engineering Technician V position is a critical role focused on waterfront shipboard construction and re-modernization, specifically working within shipyards and drydocks on U.S. Naval ships. The incumbent will be exposed to varying temperatures, including high heat during the summer and cold in the winter, while performing a range of technical tasks. These tasks include installing, maintaining, repairing, overhauling, troubleshooting, modifying, constructing, and testing electrical, electronic, and mechanical equipment and related devices. The technician will apply their technical knowledge of electronics principles to ensure equipment is operational and to solve complex problems that may arise during operations. In this role, the technician will utilize specialized test and diagnostic equipment to troubleshoot and correct malfunctions, as well as modify circuitry to enhance performance. They will also be responsible for making recommendations for improvements or modifications to address any identified issues. Providing operation and maintenance instruction to customer personnel is a key aspect of the job, along with preparing operating and malfunction reports and related documentation. Collaboration with engineering staff to identify and resolve equipment design problems is essential, as is performing quality assurance testing of assemblies and equipment fabricated by other technicians. The Engineering Technician V will also provide work leadership to less-experienced technicians and may have supervisory responsibilities. Participation in special projects may be required, making this a dynamic and engaging position for those with the requisite experience and skills.
