About the position

The Entry Level Police Officer position with the City of Gresham Police Department offers an opportunity to serve the community while developing a fulfilling career in law enforcement. Officers are responsible for protecting life and property, responding to emergencies, enforcing laws, and engaging with the community. Responsibilities

  • Patrol assigned areas by car, foot, bicycle, or other means of transportation; observe, report, and respond to crime and danger.
  • Respond to emergency calls, investigate circumstances, and take appropriate action.
  • Conduct investigations of suspected illegal activity and perform follow-up investigations of criminal cases.
  • Serve and enforce court-ordered civil process orders, including restraining orders and search warrants.
  • Provide information on laws, ordinances, and police patrols to community members.
  • Serve as Field Training Officer for new officers and work on specialty assignments.
  • Prepare a variety of records and reports, ensuring equipment used is maintained and operating properly.

Requirements

  • Must be a United States Citizen within 18 months of employment.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age at the date of hire.
  • Possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Declared by a physician as able to perform the physical duties required by the occupation.
  • Of good moral fitness, without legal conduct involving moral turpitude, dishonesty, fraud, deceit, misrepresentation, and a conviction of a sex crime, domestic violence, or any felony crime.
  • Possess a current driver's license in the applicant's state of residence and an acceptable driving history.

Nice-to-haves

  • Ability to speak a second language, preferably Spanish or Russian.
  • College degree or college-level courses in any discipline.
  • A military background or experience as a Reserve Officer, Cadet, or Corrections Officer.
