About The Position

The Environmental Engineer at BD is responsible for supporting the day-to-day safety, industrial hygiene, occupational health, and environmental management control programs at the Sumter, South Carolina facility. This role involves ensuring compliance with safety regulations, conducting audits, and implementing process improvements to enhance workplace safety and environmental standards. The position requires collaboration with various teams to minimize hazards and promote a safe working environment for over 850 associates in a large manufacturing space.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Safety, or a related field.
• Minimum of 5 years of EHS experience, including managing waste operations.
• Experience with EPA, air permits, water permits, and state agencies.
• 2 years or more experience in a highly automated manufacturing environment.

Nice To Haves

• Certifications such as ASP, CSP, CIH, CAIH are preferred.
• Familiarity with ISO 14001, ISO 9001, OSHA, EPA, and FDA GMP's.

Responsibilities

• Participates on the BD Excellence EHS Component Teams to improve safety, environmental, and health standards.
• Conducts periodic safety audits and assessments to evaluate compliance with regulations and facility policies.
• Coordinates TBRA, HAZOP, FMEA, and ergonomic evaluations to assist in process improvements.
• Reviews and updates procedures to ensure BMP safety and environmental standards exceed industry standards.
• Manages the environmental management system for compliance with ISO 14001 certification.
• Ensures compliance with local, state, federal safety laws and regulations.
• Coordinates and develops an ergonomics program to reduce physical hazards.
• Implements site Emergency Response policies and procedures.
• Collaborates with management and teams to resolve occupational health issues and environmental risks.
• Provides training for associates on industrial hygiene and environmental regulations.
