About The Position

The Environmental Services Technician at Dignity Health - California Hospital Medical Center is responsible for maintaining cleanliness and sanitation throughout the hospital to protect patients, visitors, and staff from potential infectious diseases and hazards. This role involves routine cleaning tasks, the use of specialized equipment, and adherence to safety protocols for handling biohazard materials. The technician plays a crucial role in ensuring a safe and comfortable environment for all individuals in the facility.

Requirements

  • Previous experience in health care environmental services preferred.
  • Ability to read, write, comprehend, and communicate in English.
  • High school graduate or equivalent preferred.
  • Basic computer skills preferred.
  • Ability to interact effectively with patients, customers, and associates, exhibiting superior customer service and teamwork.
  • Excellent listening and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to exercise tact and diplomacy while directing co-workers.
  • Ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks effectively and efficiently.
  • Excellent organization and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work within defined time constraints.
  • Ability to take initiative and follow through.
  • Ability to operate all types of housekeeping equipment.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with specialized cleaning equipment such as vacuum cleaners, floor machines, and carpet extractors.

Responsibilities

  • Provide routine cleaning and decluttering to appropriate areas of the hospital, including dusting, sweeping, mopping, and disposing of trash.
  • Sanitize appropriate areas of the hospital using approved tools and routines, which may vary by location.
  • Use proper chemicals, procedures, and equipment to clean and disinfect surfaces thoroughly.
  • Restock supplies as needed in supply areas, common areas, and patient rooms, including soap, paper towels, and linens.
  • Learn and follow proper techniques for disposal of all medical waste, including biological or biohazard waste.
  • Remain patient, kind, and personable in all interactions with patients, visitors, and staff.
