About the position

The Autism Teacher at Master Minds Academy is responsible for planning, implementing, and delivering effective educational programs tailored for students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). This role emphasizes collaboration with students, families, and interdisciplinary teams to meet individual educational needs, fostering a supportive environment that promotes academic success, social skills, and emotional well-being.

Responsibilities

  • Design and deliver individualized and small group instruction to students with autism in accordance with Individualized Education Plans (IEPs).
  • Adapt general education curriculum to meet the needs of students with ASD, using specialized teaching methods, materials, and accommodations.
  • Implement research-based teaching strategies, such as Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) and TEACCH.
  • Modify assignments and assessments based on each student's learning abilities.
  • Incorporate visual supports and sensory integration techniques to support learning.
  • Develop and implement behavior intervention plans (BIPs) in collaboration with specialists.
  • Utilize positive behavior support strategies to address challenging behaviors.
  • Track and monitor student progress and behavior, adjusting instructional methods as needed.
  • Collaborate with support staff to implement behavioral strategies.
  • Communicate progress with parents and families, discussing strategies and addressing concerns.
  • Collaborate with other educators and specialists to develop comprehensive support strategies.
  • Participate in IEP meetings to review student goals and progress.
  • Provide feedback to classroom aides or paraprofessionals.
  • Regularly assess student progress through evaluations and update IEPs accordingly.
  • Maintain accurate records of student performance and communications with parents and staff.
  • Create a structured and supportive classroom environment conducive to learning.
  • Organize classroom materials and ensure a sensory-friendly environment.
  • Implement classroom routines to reduce anxiety and support executive functioning skills.
  • Stay current with best practices in autism education and participate in professional development opportunities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Special Education, Early Childhood Education, or a related field.
  • Master's degree in special education or a related discipline is preferred.
  • Valid state certification in Special Education, with an endorsement in Autism or ASD preferred.
  • Experience working with students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) or other developmental disabilities.
  • Experience in creating and implementing IEPs and behavior intervention plans.
  • Strong knowledge of Autism Spectrum Disorder and evidence-based teaching strategies.
  • Ability to differentiate instruction to meet diverse student needs.
  • Patience, empathy, and strong communication skills.
  • Excellent classroom management skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Additional certifications in behavioral interventions (e.g., ABA) or related areas are a plus.
