About The Position

Balfour Beatty is seeking an Estimator I to join our preconstruction/estimating team. This role involves independently preparing estimates for various construction documents, soliciting and evaluating subcontractor bids, and reviewing project plans. The Estimator I will also assist in developing budgets and pre-bid packages for construction projects, while potentially supervising junior estimators and interns.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science Degree or 2 years of relevant work experience.
• Proficiency in estimating software (e.g., MC2, On-Screen Takeoff, Paydirt, Constructware, іSqFt).
• Strong computer skills including word processing, spreadsheets, and database applications.
• Knowledge of civil/site construction, foundation and structural systems, and mechanical and electrical systems.
• Demonstrated knowledge of exterior building wall systems and interior finish construction systems.

Nice To Haves

• Commercial pre-construction experience.
• Tier 1 construction estimating background.

Responsibilities

• Prepare sections of schematic, design development, and construction document estimates.
• Solicit and evaluate subcontractor bids and scopes of work.
• Prepare quantity surveys and review project plans and specifications for all CSI categories of work.
• Attend project site pre-bid meetings, site tours, and post-bid interviews as required.
• Develop accurate unit costs and value management skills.
• Perform technical/plan reviews when required.
• Provide information to senior estimators for developing clarifications and assumptions.
• Obtain clarifications on plans and specifications from architects and engineers when necessary.
• Analyze subcontractor and vendor pricing input when required.
• Strive to improve individual capabilities and expand knowledge of construction technologies.
