About the position

Our client, a leader in the CNC manufacturing industry for over 40 years, is seeking a highly skilled Field Service Engineer to join their team in Hillsboro, Oregon. This role is pivotal in ensuring the optimal performance of state-of-the-art CNC machines, both on-site and remotely. As a Field Service Engineer, you will be responsible for providing expert support for the maintenance, repair, and installation of advanced CNC machine tools. You will also play a crucial role in developing and updating technical documentation to support ongoing machine maintenance and upgrades. Additionally, you will assist in product development by training and guiding customers' Service Engineers on the latest product lines, establishing strong communication and customer service relationships with the support of a dedicated in-house technical team. The position offers a unique opportunity to work with cutting-edge technology in a dynamic environment. You will be expected to travel extensively, approximately 60% of the time, to various client sites, ensuring that all travel time is compensated. Responsibilities

  • Providing expert on-site and remote support for the maintenance, repair, and installation of CNC machine tools.
  • Developing and updating technical documentation to support ongoing machine maintenance and upgrades.
  • Assisting in product development by training and guiding customers' Service Engineers on the latest product lines.
  • Establishing strong communication and customer service relationships, with the support of a dedicated in-house technical team.

Requirements

  • Hands-on experience with 5-axis CNC machines is required.
  • Strong proficiency in reading and interpreting electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic prints.
  • Familiarity with 24-volt systems and the ability to troubleshoot and identify issues related to them.
  • Competence in G-code programming, spindle changes, PLC troubleshooting, and headstock alignments and leveling.
  • Solid understanding of math and geometry, critical for precision alignment and machine calibration.
  • Experience in operating or maintaining CNC systems and robotics, with knowledge of Fanuc, Mitsubishi, Haas, Siemens, or Heidenhain controls as a significant plus.

Nice-to-haves

  • Associate or Bachelor's degree in a technical field, relevant trade school certification, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Proven ability to read mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, and PLC ladder diagrams.
  • Practical experience with CNC machine troubleshooting and maintenance, including spindles and leveling.
