About the position

The Hawai`i Technology Development Corporation (HTDC) is seeking an Executive Director (ED) to lead its mission of driving economic diversification through innovation and talent development in Hawai`i. The ED will serve as the visionary and operational leader of HTDC, responsible for understanding and leveraging the rights, duties, and resources provided under Chapter 206M. This role is pivotal in overseeing the corporation's activities, ensuring alignment with the strategic goals set by the nine-member Board of Directors. The ED will manage a multi-million-dollar annual budget and lead a team of over ten direct reports, fostering a collaborative and innovative environment. In this capacity, the Executive Director will proactively identify, develop, and implement initiatives and programs aimed at building a robust high technology industry in Hawai`i, ensuring that these efforts resonate with the local culture and community. The ED will engage with a diverse range of companies, from startups to established institutions, to create new job opportunities and enhance the tech landscape of the islands. A critical aspect of this role involves actively seeking opportunities to expand existing programs and initiatives, while also making necessary adjustments or eliminations of those that are ineffective. Additionally, the ED will be responsible for seeking funding from the State legislature when necessary to support HTDC's objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Engage with a variety of companies, from startups to large institutions, to foster collaboration and growth.
  • Expand existing programs and initiatives, and adjust or eliminate those that are not effective.
  • Seek funding from the State legislature when necessary.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in a leadership role within a technology or economic development organization.
  • Strong understanding of budget management and financial oversight.
  • Ability to develop and implement strategic initiatives that align with organizational goals.
  • Experience working with diverse stakeholders, including government, private sector, and community organizations.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
