About The Position

The Executive Director Head of Medical Strategy will be a key member of the Medical Affairs Leadership team at Sumitomo Pharma, responsible for managing the Strategy Heads for each therapeutic area. This role involves developing and executing medical affairs strategies, ensuring cross-functional alignment, and engaging with external stakeholders. The position requires strong leadership, strategic thinking, and collaboration with various teams, including Commercial and R&D, to drive initiatives that support the company's mission in addressing patient needs across multiple therapeutic areas.

Requirements

  • Advanced degree in medical science (MD or PhD); MD with relevant specialization preferred.
  • 8+ years of relevant Medical Affairs work experience in biotech or pharmaceutical industry, or equivalent professional clinical experience.
  • Experience leading in a matrix team environment is considered a plus.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in conflict management and relationship building.
  • Familiarity with Key Performance Indicators and their measurement.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the team of Strategy Heads for each therapeutic area.
  • Develop and execute medical affairs strategies in alignment with the CMO and VP of Medical Affairs.
  • Provide input to Global R&D Strategy and support budget creation for Medical Affairs.
  • Lead, develop, and mentor team members.
  • Specify and sustain optimal internal processes and capabilities.
  • Align Medical Affairs strategic plans with brand imperatives and external engagement.
  • Support alliances and ensure coordination of Medical Affairs activities and budget.
  • Oversee the strategy and development of Medical Affairs plans and scientific platforms.
  • Ensure cross-functional medical alignment with various teams.
  • Direct the implementation of multi-modal medical education plans.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of scientific Publication Plans.
  • Engage with key opinion leaders and maintain visibility in the medical community.
  • Collaborate with the commercial organization on strategies and tactics.
  • Define and attend relevant medical and scientific conferences.
  • Support the development of a US Investigator Initiated Study and Collaborative Research program.
  • Ensure compliance with corporate and healthcare guidelines in all activities.
