About the position

The Executive Director of Finance is responsible for all operations in the District Business Office. This role includes serving as the district Treasurer, preparing the annual district budget for approval by the Superintendent and Board of Directors, and monitoring the budget throughout the fiscal year. The Executive Director will manage cash flow and investments of the district, oversee all deposits of money received in district accounts, and prepare monthly financial statements. Additionally, the position involves providing financial data for planning and decision making, as well as periodic budget performance reports to district administrators, principals, and department heads. The Executive Director will keep the Superintendent informed on all business affairs of the school district and recommend necessary changes and improvements.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as district Treasurer
  • Prepare the annual district budget for approval by the Superintendent and Board of Directors
  • Monitor the budget throughout the fiscal year
  • Manage cash flow/investments of the district
  • Oversee all deposits of money received in district accounts
  • Prepare monthly financial statements and provide financial data for planning and decision making
  • Provide periodic budget performance reports to district administrators, principals, and department heads
  • Keep the Superintendent informed on all business affairs of the school district
  • Supervise the financial operation of the district including salaries, operations, issuance of bonded debt, and capital outlay
  • Ensure compliance with state financial systems procedures and coding requirements
  • Establish, modify, and coordinate implementation of accounting and accounting control procedures
  • Audit internal accounting controls
  • Supervise and hire all business office personnel
  • Provide direction for payroll management
  • Prepare annual employment contracts and contract addendums
  • Evaluate personnel as assigned by the Superintendent
  • Supervise employment records related to employee compensation rates
  • Administratively oversee the posting of all employee leave
  • Approve and monitor all products offered to employees through payroll deduction
  • Oversee compliance with Section 125 Cafeteria plan
  • Conduct fiscal year end processing and reporting
  • Serve as the district liaison for all external auditors
  • Ensure compliance with all legislation regarding school business administration
  • Responsible for recordkeeping of equipment inventory and real estate records
  • Responsible for evaluation and acquisition of property, liability, and other insurance for the district
  • Work closely with the district's fiscal agent regarding debt service/bond issue matters
  • Establish, revise, and implement purchasing procedures for the district
  • Monitor financial procedures and activity of outside support organizations
  • Provide training in financial policies and practices for district personnel
  • Serve as district financial coordinator for eFinance
  • Attend and represent the district at community, state, and professional meetings
  • Perform other related tasks as designated by the Superintendent
  • Adhere to all policies of the district
