About the position

The Executive Director of Residential Services provides strategic oversight and leadership for all residential programs at Choices for People. This role is responsible for ensuring high-quality, person-centered services for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) while managing a compassionate and high-performing team. The Executive Director will oversee residential operations, manage budgets, ensure regulatory compliance, and foster community and family engagement to align services with the organization’s mission and values.

Responsibilities

  • Provide executive oversight and strategic direction for all residential services, ensuring person-centered care for individuals with IDD
  • Supervise the Director of Residential Services and mentor staff to promote leadership development and ensure accountability within residential operations
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory standards, including DMH guidelines, Medicaid Waiver, and other relevant regulations, maintaining a high standard of quality for services
  • Oversee individualized support planning, ensuring services reflect residents’ rights, personal goals, and choices
  • Develop and manage the residential services budget in collaboration with finance staff, ensuring fiscal responsibility and alignment with organizational goals
  • Monitor service quality, resident satisfaction, and operational outcomes, implementing improvements based on data, feedback, and best practices
  • Lead the hiring, supervision, coaching, and performance evaluations for residential leadership staff, promoting a culture of inclusion and empowerment
  • Maintain strong relationships with residents' families, guardians, and case managers, ensuring open communication and transparency
  • Act as a key representative for Choices for People within the community, advocating for individuals with IDD at local and regional levels
  • Manage audits, documentation, and risk management processes, ensuring all residential environments meet safety, accessibility, and regulatory standards
  • Oversee staff development initiatives, including ongoing training, mentoring, and recognition, to retain and develop a skilled workforce
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to align residential services with overall organizational strategies and goals
  • Assist with long term strategic planning and preparation of Residential Services
  • Lead and manage family and community engagement efforts, ensuring that the voice of residents and families is heard and integrated into program planning
  • Maintain knowledge of developments, trends, and best practices in residential management
  • Maintain knowledge of industry trends, regulatory changes, agency compliance requirements, etc.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Services, Social Work, Psychology, or a related field preferred
  • At least four years of leadership experience in residential, human services, or IDD programs or a related field preferred
  • At least four years of experience in a supervisory role preferred
  • Experience working with nonprofits, state entities, and accrediting agencies (DMH, Medicaid Waiver, DHSS, CARF, CACFP, etc.) preferred
  • Experience in budget development and management, financial reporting, and ensuring fiscal responsibility preferred
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Strong understanding of person-centered practices and the unique needs of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to develop and implement strategies for continuous improvement
  • Track record of successful leadership, team management, and staff development
  • Ability to read, analyze, and apply regulatory guidelines, financial data, and operational reports
  • Knowledge of best practices in residential services for individuals with IDD, including risk management and quality assurance systems
  • Ability to engage and maintain positive relationships with families, guardians, case managers, and community partners.
  • Willingness to maintain confidentiality of private, sensitive, or protected information
  • Ability to develop rapport and coordinate with other divisions, vendors, key stakeholders, etc.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365 and standard office equipment
  • Commitment to the organization’s mission and working with a diverse population
