The Executive Underwriter or Senior Underwriter plays a crucial role in achieving profitable underwriting results that align with the company's growth and profit objectives. This position involves appropriate risk selection, maintaining strong agency relations, effective book management, and a commitment to self-development while also assisting in the professional development of others. The Executive Underwriter is responsible for administering the underwriting and servicing of both new and renewal accounts for agents and producers assigned within their territory, ensuring compliance with the company's underwriting, authority, and pricing standards. A solid understanding of AmTrust's mission, vision, and values is essential, as is upholding the standards of the organization. In this role, the Executive Underwriter will write and retain a profitable book of business through thorough risk analysis, pricing, and servicing. They must maintain compliance with state filings and adhere to corporate underwriting and pricing guidelines. Operating within the written authority granted, the Executive Underwriter will make necessary referrals to Home Office Underwriting. Collaboration is key, as they will work closely with the territory team, keeping peers and management informed of all issues and activities. The Executive Underwriter will also collaborate with their Manager to develop and implement the territory business plan, sharing accountability with the team in meeting territory goals. Training territory staff and clients on underwriting appetite and protocols in line with corporate training guidelines is a significant aspect of the role. Acting as the referral point for the territory underwriting staff within Home Office authority, the Executive Underwriter will coach and collaborate with the team to develop, manage, and maintain relationships with outside clients, which may involve traveling within the territory to meet with agents, producers, and nonprofit associations or organizations. Participation in industry events, such as agency or association conventions, is expected. The Executive Underwriter will provide professional, timely, and courteous communication and service to external clients and cross-departmental staff to resolve issues related to policyholders and territory producers. They will also provide pertinent information and guidance to support staff in processing coverage requests according to service guidelines, collaborate on reports, update databases, and assist in gathering and communicating competitive information while staying current with market trends and demands. Other functionally related duties may be assigned as needed.
