About the position

As a Fleet Maintenance Tractor Technician, A Level, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the operational efficiency of our fleet, primarily focusing on Tractor assets while also gaining exposure to other fleet assets within our operations. Your primary responsibilities will include performing and troubleshooting preventative maintenance and repairs, effectively completing work orders, and supporting various shop projects aimed at optimizing asset uptime and productivity. Safety is paramount in this role, and you will be expected to embody our safety culture and adhere to all safety protocols while performing your duties. In this position, you will be tasked with conducting basic to mid-range diagnostics, troubleshooting, maintenance, and repairs on a variety of systems including engines, transmissions, DEF systems, rear ends, ABS systems, and electrical systems. A strong understanding of A/C diagnostics and repair is also essential. You will work with Volvo I-shift automated manual transmissions and will be expected to perform preventative maintenance tasks and inspections on company vehicles and equipment. Your ability to diagnose and repair equipment using various software tools such as Transman, Techtool, Impact, Davie, Detroit, Bendix, Cummins, and C3 yard management will be critical to your success. Additionally, you will be responsible for repairs related to pneumatic/hydraulic systems, cooling systems, exhaust, steering, alignment, and suspension. Familiarity with J1939 and J1708 data link diagnostics is required. Accurate recording of time, parts, and inspection checklists is essential, as is ensuring that health and safety remain the top priority by complying with all safe work practices, policies, and processes. You will also be expected to safely operate various tools and equipment, including gauges, forklifts, shunt trucks, torches, grinders, and hand and power tools. With oversight, you will conduct asset inspections and complete small repairs, ensuring successful inspections post-PM completion. Continuous learning is a key aspect of this role, as you will work closely with tenured technicians to enhance your technical skills and knowledge through reading, classroom training, and hands-on demonstrations. The work environment includes exposure to various warehouse conditions, including freezer temperatures ranging from -20F to 0F, perishable warehouse conditions from 28F to 60F, and grocery warehouse conditions from 50F to 90F. This position requires a strong commitment to high-quality work and the ability to complete repairs correctly the first time, with a high attention to detail and accuracy.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot preventative maintenance and repairs on fleet vehicles.
  • Complete work orders effectively and support shop projects to optimize asset uptime.
  • Conduct basic to mid-range diagnostics and troubleshooting on various systems.
  • Perform preventative maintenance tasks and inspections on company vehicles and equipment.
  • Diagnose and repair equipment using various software tools.
  • Repair pneumatic/hydraulic systems, cooling systems, exhaust, steering, alignment, and suspension.
  • Safely operate gauges, forklifts, shunt trucks, torches, grinders, and various hand and power tools.
  • Conduct asset inspections and complete small repairs with oversight.
  • Engage in continuous learning and training to enhance technical skills.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • 5-7 years of mechanical exposure and understanding of Internal Combustion Engines.
  • Base understanding of mechanical principles and aptitude to complete repairs on Heavy Duty equipment.
  • Familiarity with vehicle maintenance systems and commercial truck components.
  • Understanding of driver D.O.T. regulations and Transman familiarity.
  • Ability to perform heavy lifting and stand for extended periods.
