About the position

The Export Compliance Manager at the University of Texas at Dallas plays a crucial role in ensuring compliance with federal regulations related to export control within the Office of Research and Innovation. This position involves overseeing export control compliance responsibilities, advising institutional partners, and supporting research security initiatives. The manager will work closely with various stakeholders to ensure adherence to regulations such as the Export Administration Regulations (EAR), International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), and Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC).

Responsibilities

  • Perform export control compliance responsibilities ensuring adherence to federal regulations and policies.
  • Determine export control classifications and licensing obligations for various controlled transactions.
  • Support contract negotiations involving export control compliance and research security risks.
  • Advise faculty, students, and staff on established guidelines, policies, and laws related to export control.
  • Conduct monitoring reviews of technology control plans and risk management plans.
  • Evaluate institutional activities for export control compliance, including research proposals and international shipments.
  • Coordinate the development and delivery of education outreach programs and training on export control compliance.
  • Stay informed on industry standards and issues related to export control and research security compliance.
  • Maintain records for export control compliance, including file organization and communications.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in science, public administration, or a related field.
  • Three years of research administration experience.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Outlook, Excel, Teams, PowerPoint, Adobe Acrobat).
  • Ability to manage a detail-oriented workload and prioritize multiple projects.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with sound judgment.
  • Experience working with multidisciplinary teams in a large institution.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience administering export control compliance or international trade compliance.
  • JD or advanced degree in science, engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience in industry or academic research administration.
