About the position

The Tobin Montessori School is seeking an Extended Term Substitute Early Childhood Montessori Teacher available from May 2025 through no later than June 30, 2025. The school is a tight-knit community devoted to integrating the best practices of Montessori philosophy and public education, having achieved accreditation by the American Montessori Society in 2015. The Montessori method emphasizes children's intrinsic motivation and ability to teach themselves through observation and interaction with their environment. The Children's House Program serves a multi-graded group of students aged 3-6 years, focusing on fostering competent, responsible, adaptive individuals who are lifelong learners. The teacher will be responsible for planning and implementing a curriculum aligned with Massachusetts Common Core State standards and the American Montessori Society approved curriculum, emphasizing math, literacy, science, and social studies.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and implement curriculum based on Massachusetts Common Core State standards and American Montessori Society approved curriculum.
  • Provide a high-quality educational program with emphasis on math, literacy, science, and social studies.
  • Work collaboratively with the Children's House Team, Montessori Resource Teacher, Classroom Paraprofessional, Special Educators, and other support personnel.
  • Prepare and maintain the Montessori environment to support student growth and development.
  • Conduct daily observations and maintain a thorough record-keeping system.
  • Apply observational skills to match students' developmental needs with materials and activities.
  • Guide students in creating individual plans.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree or higher from an accredited college or university.
  • Ability to work with and be sensitive to the needs of a socio-economically, ethnically, and linguistically diverse population of students.
  • Educated in the Montessori Philosophy and methodology appropriate to the age level taught.
  • Ability and dedication to put key Montessori concepts into practice.

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous Montessori teaching experience.
  • Montessori Certification.
  • MA Certification/Licensure: Early Childhood PreK-2.
