About the position

The Facility Manager - Environment of Care/Safety Officer at Benchmark Behavioral Health System Hawaii is a full-time position that plays a crucial role in ensuring a safe and secure environment for both clients and staff at a 10-bed behavioral health facility serving adolescent boys. This position is essential for maintaining compliance with various regulatory codes, including local, state, and federal standards, OSHA regulations, and The Joint Commission standards. The Facility Manager will be responsible for creating and implementing a Planned Maintenance System (PMS) for the facility, which includes overseeing repair work such as painting, plumbing, carpentry, drywall, and furniture assembly. In this role, the Facility Manager will anticipate needed repairs and upgrades to avoid future costs, ensuring that the facility remains in optimal condition. The position requires coordination with vendors and the Department of Health for building repairs, as well as conducting inspections to minimize the risk of self-harm or suicidal behaviors among clients. The Facility Manager must respond to maintenance requests promptly and courteously, and will also be involved in minor electrical and plumbing tasks, as well as carpentry and drywall work. Candidates should have a minimum of three years of experience with Joint Commission surveys and standards, as well as experience working with regulatory agencies such as OSHA and Fire Marshall standards. Strong communication and time management skills are essential, as is the ability to work off hours in case of emergencies. Knowledge of Information Technology (IT) is also required, as the Facility Manager will need to maintain a maintenance log and manage multiple tasks effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Provide a safe and secure environment for clients and staff.
  • Create a Planned Maintenance System (PMS) for the facility.
  • Anticipate needed repairs and upgrades to avoid future costs.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulatory codes, OSHA standards, and The Joint Commission standards.
  • Schedule maintenance and safety checks for company vehicles.
  • Coordinate with vendors and the Department of Health for building repairs.
  • Inspect the building to minimize clients' opportunities for self-harm or suicidal behaviors.
  • Respond to maintenance requests in a timely and courteous manner.
  • Perform minor electrical tasks such as repairing/replacing lighting fixtures and outlets.
  • Conduct plumbing tasks such as replacing faucets and toilets.
  • Execute carpentry and drywall skills such as installing moldings and wall repairs.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in facilities management and safety management, including supervisory experience.
  • Knowledge of general construction trades, mechanical repair, and maintenance.
  • Experience with Joint Commission surveys and standards.
  • Familiarity with regulatory agencies such as OSHA and Fire Marshall standards.
  • Excellent communication and time management skills.
  • Working knowledge of Information Technology (IT).
  • Ability to respond physically to aggressive clients using CPI Nonviolent Crisis Intervention methods.
