About the position

Alter Trading is seeking a Facility Operations Manager with a strong background in auto shredding and metal recycling. This leadership role is pivotal in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of the Rogers facility. Reporting directly to the Regional Director of Operations, the Facility Operations Manager will oversee all activities related to planning, maintenance, staffing, training, and operations. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the shredding, ferrous, and non-ferrous departments, ensuring that all operations align with the company's safety and environmental objectives, as well as ISO and OSHA compliance requirements. In this role, the Facility Operations Manager will supervise employees, which includes hiring, discipline, and terminations as necessary. Regular interaction with customers is a key component of this position, as the manager will maintain excellent relationships with both commercial and peddler customers. The ability to grade and price scrap is essential, and the manager may also issue payments to customers as needed. Additionally, the manager will be responsible for overseeing building and equipment maintenance, managing costs and expenditures, and preparing and monitoring annual budgets and monthly operating reports. The Facility Operations Manager will also operate yard equipment and perform light equipment maintenance as required. This position may involve other responsibilities as assigned or directed, making adaptability and a proactive approach essential for success.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee shredding, ferrous, and non-ferrous departments.
  • Supervise employees including hiring, discipline, and terminations as necessary.
  • Interact with customers on a regular basis to maintain relationships.
  • Grade and price scrap; issue payment to customers as needed.
  • Maintain company safety and environmental objectives and standards; ensure ISO and OSHA compliance.
  • Supervise building and equipment maintenance and replacement needs.
  • Manage costs and expenditures to meet or exceed budgeted targets for yard volume, net profit, and ROI.
  • Prepare and monitor annual budgets and monthly operating reports.
  • Operate yard equipment and perform light equipment maintenance.
  • Perform other responsibilities as assigned or directed.

Requirements

  • Previous experience in Shredder Operations is required.
  • 5 years of industry experience including supervisory experience.
  • Associate or Bachelor's degree in business, accounting, management, or other related area preferred.
  • Excellent open communication style to create trust and confidence within all levels of the company and with external vendors and customers.
  • Ability to travel occasionally to other facilities or customers as needed; must possess a valid driver's license.
