About the position

The Facility Plant Manager at Patriots Village State Veterans Home in Sumter plays a crucial role in ensuring that the facility operates in compliance with all Life Safety Codes and Health Care Codes. This position is responsible for overseeing the maintenance and operations of the facility, ensuring that all aspects meet the required standards set by various inspecting agencies. The Facility Plant Manager will be involved in a variety of tasks that include performing complex maintenance inspections, developing cost estimates for supplies and equipment, and consulting with onsite management regarding building and grounds concerns. This role requires a hands-on approach, as the manager may need to directly engage in maintenance tasks when necessary. In addition to maintenance responsibilities, the Facility Plant Manager will assist with contractor selection and performance, ensuring that all projects align with the facility's needs and regulatory requirements. The ability to read and understand construction drawings, plans, and specifications is essential, as is the capacity to interpret and implement relevant policies and procedures. The manager will also support Avalon's Preventative Maintenance programs and direct emergency assistance efforts for the facilities as required. Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with staff, residents, and families is a key component of this role, as communication and collaboration are vital for successful operations.

Responsibilities

  • Perform complex maintenance inspections tasks and operate related equipment.
  • Develop cost estimates for supplies, equipment and repair projects.
  • Consult with onsite management (administrators) in regard to building and grounds concerns, renovations, upgrades, building and regulatory codes.
  • Assist with contractor selection and performance when requested.
  • Read and understand construction drawings, plans and specification.
  • Interpret, explain and implement pertinent policies and procedures.
  • Support Avalon's Preventative Maintenance programs.
  • Direct emergency assistance efforts for facilities as required.
  • Serve in a hands-on maintenance role when necessary.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

Requirements

  • An engineering, construction or business-related bachelor's degree.
  • Experience in an institutional or correctional setting is preferred.
  • Previous Maintenance experience in a health care setting required.
  • Construction and project management experience.
  • Working knowledge of pertinent local, state and federal laws, ordinance, codes and rules.
  • Basic principles and practices of budget preparation and management.
  • Proven ability to handle multiple projects and details simultaneously with self-direction.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with corporate, regional and facility personnel and relate positively and favorably to residents and families.
